What is the
Party of the Right?

According to a former Associated Editor of National Review, “The Party of the Right is the most important organization an intelligent young conservative can join in America today.”

The Party of the Right is Conservative. It is the Right-most of the seven Parties in the Yale Political Union and, having been founded in 1953, the second oldest. The Party of the Right as an organization is governed by Tradition and respect for personal authority and has historically embraced both Traditionalists and Libertarians and is dedicated to developing and presenting the Conservatism of Tomorrow. Many Party members have gone on to positions of power and importance in the Greater American Conservative Movement.

The Party of the Right is a political organization. Politics in the Party is about leading people, and leadership in the Party depends ultimately on being to able to communicate a vision to others and convincing them to follow it. This development of leadership is encouraged both by Official structures in the Party and through a more informal process of intimate person-to-person interaction. Thus, throughout its history the Party has produced leaders who have gone on to shape the American political landscape.

The Party of the Right is an intellectual organization. As a philosophical debating society, the Party of the Right is probably most easily seen as being intellectual. Both on our Floor and in more personal settings, the Party of the Right demands that its Members and Guests critically evaluate and question their personal beliefs in the search for Truth. We believe that ideas matter, and we are not satisfied with trite answers.

The Party of the Right is a social organization. We are a band of brothers, brought together by the battles we have fought. The intense personal interaction that the Party demands of its Members helps to forge strong ties and lasting friendships. The Party holds many social events throughout the semester, which include Toasting Sessions, Nights of Cards and Games, Table at Commons, the Annual Banquet, the Fall Bacchanalian Orgy, and much more.

The Party of the Right is Philosophy done Right. The Party’s Project is to make Great Men, and the Party has traditionally found itself best able to do this by combining the political, intellectual, and social aspects of the Party, which together allow its Members to develop, explore, and practice their personal philosophies.
